The K-9 Program consists of 2 Patrol Officers and 2 canines. Each officer and canine attends and completes ongoing training to ensure compliance, certification and excellence within their respective role while serving the community. Our canines truly become a part of our blue family and we try to utilize them as much as possible. We have been able to work with some amazing canine as part of the Police Canine Program with our entire canine listed below:

K-9 Program Fundraising
Steffi, a Belgium Malinois, joined the department in 2015, and works with Officer Chris Hasz and Rika, also a Belgium, works with Officer Sam Fox, joining the department in 2018. The dogs are bred in Europe, through Vonliche Kennels. Dogs join the police force at around 2 years-old, and generally work until 11 or 12 years-old. When the dog retires, they stay with the officer typically.
Weilers Convenience Stores stepped up in a big way to help get the Steffi and H stuffed animals out to the public for purchase making them available in their Weilers “North” Store. The stuffed animals sold out fast and a second round was ordered!
Each dog is an investment of $20,000, plus the additional cost of outfitting a kennel in the police vehicle and the handlers residence. Funds are raised through donations, such as 2017’s stuffed animal drive, or other larger private donations. Because of an anonymous donor, 30 of our K9 stuffed animals were donated and delivered to Marshfield Clinic Health Systems Pediatric Department...Merry Christmas to all those children that must spend Christmas in the hospital.
Our donors include The Mill in Spencer, Power PAC shop, and General Farm Supply who donate all of the food for the dogs, Marshfield Veterinary and Castlerock Veterinary which gives discounts on vet care / medications just to name a few. We are very grateful for the all contributions the community makes yearly to our K-9 Program.
